The Emergency Shelter
Known as My Friend’s House (MFH), the shelter takes in children and youth ages 0 through 17 and is the only shelter of its kind in Collin County.
-
My Friend’s House (MFH) is City House’s emergency shelter, providing 24-hour residential care in partnership with Child Protective Services for children removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect. MFH also serves Runaway and Homeless Youth (RHY), offering short-term shelter and supportive services during times of crisis. With an average stay of 21 days, youth are referred through school districts, the juvenile court system, community partners, or by word of mouth—ensuring timely care when safety and stability are urgently needed.

Why We’re Needed
The Risk of Human Trafficking is Rising
In 2023, 71% of our Runaway Homeless Youth residents staying at My Friend’s House identified as high-risk or had confirmed victimization after being screened with the Commercial Sexual Exploitation Identification Tool.
The percentage for 2023 went up 19% from 2022 and 31% from 2020.
Experiencing Homelessness is Dangerous
1 in 3 youth without housing will be propositioned for sex within 48 hours of being on the street. Victims of sexual exploitation and trafficking often develop critically low self-esteem, experience disproportionate rates of depression, anxiety, substance misuse, and suicidal thoughts.
Over 5,000 unaccompanied youth die each year as a result of assault, suicide, or illness.
Every 10 seconds a case of child abuse is reported
Behind every report is a child who needs immediate safety. City House responds by providing shelter, care, and consistent support when home is no longer safe.
They arrive scared and traumatized, and we surround them with comprehensive care, and a stable environment where they can start to heal.
