Youth in crisis.
Care in action
City House is a leading nonprofit serving children, youth, and young adults experiencing homelessness, abuse, and neglect in North Texas. Together with community partners, schools, and local supporters, we provide safe housing, counseling, and crisis intervention—working to create stability today and pathways toward independence for tomorrow.
Answering a Need, Then and Now
Founded in 1988 by PISD employees Nancy Boyd and Kay Goodman, City House was built on a simple but urgent belief: no child or young person should face homelessness alone. What began as a response to unmet needs in the Plano community has grown into a multifaceted organization offering housing, counseling, and crisis intervention for children and young adults up to 24 across North Texas.
For decades, City House has stepped in during moments of uncertainty—providing safety, stability, and consistent support when it matters most. By meeting young people where they are and walking alongside them toward independence, City House continues to respond to the evolving realities of youth experiencing neglect, abuse and homelessness with compassion, integrity, and dignity.
Our mission is to protect, empower, and transform the lives of abused, neglected, and homeless youth through comprehensive care, safe shelter, and pathways to independence and self-sufficiency
A hidden population
Youth homelessness exists in our communities, though it’s easy to miss. Many young people move quietly from place to place—sleeping on couches, cycling through shelters, or passing long nights on public transit. Their lives unfold out of view, but their need is real. Behind familiar streets and daily routines, youth are navigating homelessness in our own community.
